One Lovely Blog Award

The time has come to 'Blog award'. Susan gave it to me last few days. That is something I am very pleased with, so I wish to thank her very much for the nomination.
I have been taking a look and this is my list of blogs in alphabetical order. It's a hard decision because I do love all of them... I have chosen 15 vintage blogs. My nominees are:
And now, seven things about me:
1. I love Spanish, Italian and Indian food, in this order.
2. I dye my hair black. This colour is a little bit darker than my natural hair, but I do it because I have already gray hairs and I hate them!:)

3. I always loved to makeup myself since I was a child...If I had known all the tools, I would have been thrilled. I used to makeup my eyes using horrible eye-shadow sponge brushes...Now I am collecting makeup brushes:)
4) I can't put up with someone is drinking water from a water bottle. That makes me feel sick. I always use a glass. I took a dislike to it.
5) I miss Spain a lot! I am looking forward to going over there on holidays!. My hometown is so sunny, the weather is so awful here...
6) I always forget things easily when I've bought them. I am a terrific shopaholic. So it's a surprise when I open my closet he,he.
7) I'm planning to get married next year in Las Vegas! Yahoo!:D

Vintage query: Porcelain Skin

Hello readers,
Meg Eileen Carroll, asked me if I had a recommendation for porcelain skin. She wanted to know about a pale foundation that created a vintage look.
Meg, I am going to write about several options, low cost and high quality cosmetics. I recommend you if you can afford it, to buy a good one, but it will be your personal choice:)

HIGH QUALITY OPTIONS:
Well, my current foundation shade is MAC Matchmaster 1.5 . It is a matte foundation and lighter than the famous MAC Studio Fix. I love it. As you can see ,there is a paler shade: MAC Matchmaster 1.0. It may be a good option for you.
If you are looking for a matte full-coverage foundation, you will choose MAC Studio Fix. Its application could be a little bit difficult, it dries quickly therefore make sure to kind of work in sections, making sure that each area is blended well before moving onto the next. My shade is MAC Studio Fix Fluid NW20 or NW25.
As you have seen on the MAC website, there are two types of Studio Fix Fluid: NW and NC.
NC means 'Neutral Cool' which is for people who have yellow undertones in their skin. Like somebody who is olive, golden beige color skin.
NW means 'Neutral Warm' which is for people who have red/pink undertones in their skin. Like somebody who is pink beige color.
How do you know? Well the best way is testing it on the bottom on your cheek, past your jawline. There is a famous trick, but it is not a fixed rule: If your body veins are bluish, you will use a NW foundation but if they are greenish, you will use a NC foundation.
The palest shade is MAC Studio Fix Fluid NC15 or NW 15. Another option for you.
If you would like to get a paler foundation, you can buy a white one and use it as modulator even with your current foundation, blend them well. In my opinion this is the best way to get your desired shade. Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in 1 may be a perfect option for you.
I don't recommend you to use it as a foundation, because you shouldn't makeup your face whiter than your body. It wouldn't suit you.
If you set the foundation with HD loose powder, it would be an extra whiteness touch on your face. Makeup Forever has kind of become famous for its HD line.
They are wonderful, because set the foundation and matify the skin without changing its natural contours. I love to use them to set the concealer, but there is a drawback, they shine under the camera flash. Don't use them for a special event, like a wedding.
After my foundation, I use Too Faced Primed&Poreless that gives my skin a very smooth vintage looking complexion. It's a super fine texture.
An expensive option can be NARS Loose Powder in Snow shade. It can be too much money, but it will be a good purchase, given that it contains a lot of product.
You can use both of them for pics, no problem with flashes.
LOW COST OPTIONS:
I love using Revlon ColorStay Foundation. It's an oil-free product that will give your skin a fresh look. I use SAND BEIGE shade. It is a MAC NW/NC 20/25 dupe because its undertone is neutral. You could choose between two shades that are paler than mine. The IVORY shade is the palest one.
I recommend you as well, CatricePrime and Fine Translucent Loose Powder, to set your foundation and/or concealer (don't use them if you are gonna take pics, because they are HD powder).
Some people apply talcum powder on their face, because it's a cheap choice to give a whiteness touch on their skin. Please don't do that, talcum powder will dry out your skin, and it doesn't look smooth and soft. It's a bad tip. You have a lot of specific makeup products:)

TO SUM UP:
Low Cost: Revlon ColorStay + Catrice Prime and Translucent Loose Powder
High Quality: MAC Matchmaster + NARS Loose Powder
Or you can buy a white foundation (Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in 1) and use it as a modulator with your current one. NARS Loose Powder or Too Faced Prime&Poreless are expensive, but very good investment, in my opinion.
I hope, I have been able to help you with your right shade :)

Moonrise Kingdom

A couple of months ago, I went to the pictures and watched a lovely movie: Moonrise Kingdom.
In brief, it sets on a British Island in the summer of 1965 and tells the romance of two teenagers who make a secret pact and flee from their home into the forest.
Today, I was walking down a beautiful Irish landscape that it reminded me of this movie. To finish, I'll show you my personal 'moonrise' pictures :)
This place is called 'Lough Dan' and it is near County Wicklow in Ireland. It is not a very touristic point, given that its access is a little bit rough, but it's worth to go there, and if the weather is good, to have a bath. If you would like to visit it, check out these links.

The Balm Cosmetics

Hello Dearies! I got around to swatching. Let's introduce a makeup line: The Balm Cosmetics.
This vintage inspired brand was born in San Francisco CA. The founder & CEO is Marissa Shipman. One day, a brilliant idea popped up in her head, there were some must-have products in her makeup bag to feel glamorous and felt that other women could need the same, so she brought several makeup books in Amazon on how to make cosmetics and mixed ingredients in her kitchen:) After a lot of hard work, she created the brand which is now a bestseller in Sephora USA and is a favourite with famous makeup artists.
The Balm packaging is absolutely lovely. Pin-up girls and beefcakes, curtsey cards containers and cheeky names such as Sexy Mama, Nude'Tude, Hot Mama and so on. It reminds me of Benefit Cosmetics, with the advantage that the most of their products are under €20. The Balm also represents an important vegan culture as they aren't harmful to animals.
Now, I would like to show you my first two choices, I bought them on the website: Maquillalia
Mary Lou-Manizer: It is a beautiful, shimmering champagne highlighter that is flattering on all skin tones, giving an instantaneous boost of luminosity. Also it can be an eye shadow (I use it as a brow eye shadow) . It has a big mirror inside and doesn't put any glitter onto your skin. The texture is very creamy and there is a lot of product.
Hot Mama: This is a coral pink blush with golden sheen that will give your cheeks such a lovely sunny flush. Some people think that is practically identical to cult favourite NARS Orgasm. The texture is very soft, it has shimmer in but no glitter. It can be a sexy shadow and lovely blush, all-in-one!, so it's a good purchase.
I will use them in future posts for new makeup looks, anyway I made some swatches on my arm for you.
The Balm Cosmetics, a trendy-vintage makeup line for Vargas-girls;)

Lady Marmalade

Here it is. My first Burlesque post. I'll show you my little collection of corsets. I hope to increase it as soon as I can :)
I bought them on the website: http://www.corsets-uk.com/
There are several promos on this website like '3x2 sale', 'Corset of the Day (COTD)', 'Clearance' and so on. Have a look!.
The website runs very well. I didn't have any problem with them. Anyway I will always choose Steel Bones Corsets category as the quality is higher than Fashion Corsets category. All of them have a centre piece to cover your back and the design is 15'' long so will cover your hips and back on ladies 5ft6" and under. Also, I fell in love with them because they produce a silhouette resembling the hourglass shape: wide bottom, wasp waist and wide top.
These corsets were my choices:
The only snag can be that you will need a person who help you to tighten it. So every time that I decide to be 'Scarlett O'Hara' being laced into my corset, my Mammy has to be my awesomer half haha;) So funny!!^^

Bye, Bye Amy

One year ago, we lost Amy Winehouse. The Princess of Soul died on the 23rd July 2011 at her house in London from accidental alcohol poisoning.
She was The New Billie Holiday, who unfortunately came to a sad end like her.
Amy, today your fans have lit candles outside your home but they will remember your black beehive hair, old-school tattoos, modern pin-up look and your wonderful voice forever.

Gramophobia

Today, I would like to express my disappointment with modern remixes. I really hate them. When the summer comes, some bands or DJs make this kind of 'music' and they truly destroy beautiful oldies.
I do love the song 'Why don't you do right?', it is considered a classic woman-blues song. Well, there have been many versions for this one. The best known one is Peggy Lee's version, which was recorded July 27, 1942 in New York with Benny Goodman.
In 2010, the Serbian DJ Marko Milicevic, also known as the dance act Gramophonedzie, remixed this one, as the single 'Why don't you'.
If you can't watch the video, check it out here:
Why don't you (Gramophonedzie)
What the hell is this about? You know my point of view about the song...What about the video? It's a shoddy work, Does the girl try to be Rita Hayworth? :O Judge for yourself.
Another example, it can be the song 'Tu vuò fà l'Americano' by Renato Carosone. Nowadays, this one has been converted into 'We no speak Americano'. As is often said, words are sometimes not needed.

Be Nice, Be Polite

Yesterday, I bought a second hand book in a bargain bookshop. It is called: 'The Nice Girl's Guide to Good Behaviour' by Monica Redlich.
About the Book
The Nice Girl's Guide to Good Behaviour was first published in England in 1935, a gently satirical guide to being the right sort of girl. Its advice is as useful today as it was seventy years ago.
Monica Redlich advises on how good behaviour can help a girl attend all the desirable events, meet all the right people, and dazzle those around her with her sparkling personality. Following the author's advice the nice girl could obtain everything her heart desires- and in so doing, bring happiness to those around her.
Being good can make all the difference. Nice girls once reigned supreme, and with this essential companion they could again. No modern girl should be without it.
About the Author
Monica Redlich was an English journalist, author and social commentator. She was born in 1909 in Lincolnshire, and brought up in London and the Midlands- her father was Canon Theologian of Leicester. Following her marriage to a Danish diplomat, Sigurd Christensen, in 1937, Monica moved first to Copenhagen, where she remained throughout the war years, and then to New York where her husband became Danish Consul-General. She died in Copenhagen in 1963.
I will post some interesting things that I read in the guide...I am looking forward to reading it :)

Ads for gals in 1938

Hello! I've just found these vintage advertisements on internet. They are some funny tips for single ladies in the late 30's.That's interesting! it seems the only keys to successful dating were do not talk too much, wear a bra, and do not pass out in the middle of your date because you are drunk, among others.
Unfortunately, some things have not changed nowadays. My half likes my makeup look but he doesn't like when it takes me a long time and he is waiting for me haha.
What do you think ladies? Do you like the tips? I don't like too much...but anyway I reckon the pics are very funny, specially the 2nd one where there is a grumpy man and I'm sure he is thinking HOW drunk is she? The girlie is fantastic, she is in her world :)
There is no tip in the next one, hahaha but it's my favorite pic :D
